Three Simple Living and Minimalist Living Blogs You May Have Missed

By Erik Parker

Minimalism, frugal living, green living and sustainable lifestyles have become hot topics for bloggers in the last couple of years, and a few names have risen to the top.

For example, when many blog readers think of minimalist living, they think of Leo Babauta of Zen Habits. He offers a great blog, but he isn’t the only voice of simplicity in the world.

Here are three up-and-coming bloggers and their blogs about living simple, conscious lives that you may not already be reading. All three are worth a look.

Gip Plaster at So Much More Life

Gip’s blog is about what he calls “simple, deliberate” living -- and it’s a refreshing change from other blogs in several ways. First, He writes well and often tackles subjects others won’t dare -- like how important blog comments are to bloggers and even his controversial take on religion and spirituality. Second, he hasn’t written an ebook he’s trying to sell you, so he can’t be accused of being a blogger for the money. Finally, his site design is richer and warmer than the usual all-white blogs of many minimalist bloggers.

Sam Spurlin at The Simpler Life

Unlike Gip’s blog, Sam’s is all white -- and he does have an ebook to sell you. Still, his writing make his site worth a few minutes of your time. Trained as a teacher, Sam talks about his struggles with finding a full-time job and with having to temporarily move back with his parents in his 20s. He’s poised to join the ranks of well-known simplicity bloggers if he stays with it -- something many young bloggers don’t do.

Meg Wolfe at Minimalist Woman

While many minimalism writers are in their 20s (like Sam) or 30s (like Gip), Meg writes from a different perspective. As a mature woman, her take often varies from the ideas of others in her blogging category. She writes about paring down the distractions and possessions in her life so she can focus on what’s really important -- a centered, rich experience. Ranging from practical advice to philosophical essays, she always has something interest to say.

Gip, Sam and Meg offer the simple living community three distinct voices that sometimes merge with the more well-known spokespeople for the moment and sometimes diverge from them.

These three often-overlooked bloggers offer interesting and valuable sites worth visiting -- and blogs that seem to have the staying power to survive when others aren’t. Be sure to sign up for emails or RSS feeds from all three so you don’t miss a word they say in the future.
